In August 2017, London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will light up for a spectacular Summer of World Athletics. It will be the biggest global sporting event of the year.

The London Championships will be the 16th in the event’s 34-year history with the first IAAF World Championships being hosted in Helsinki in 1983.

Runners compete over 25 laps of a 400m track. They make bunched standing starts and can break immediately for the inside.

Britain’s Mo Farah earned a special place in the history of athletics when he became the first distance runner to win 10 consecutive global titles at the London 2017 IAAF World Championships on Friday night 4th August 2017.

First women’s world 50 kilometres race walk on Sunday 13 August 2017

Ines Henriques of Portugal broke her own world record with 4:05:56 to win the inaugural women’s world 50km title at the IAAF World Championships London 2017 on Sunday 13 August.
